DMS 345 - Echocardiography Applications and Pathology


This course will cover advanced cardiac anatomy and pathophysiology, including the clinical and echocardiographic presentation of cardiac disease processes such as ischemic heart disease, cardiomyopathies and pericardial disease, valvular and structural heart disease, cardiac neoplasms and cardio-oncology, and vascular and systemic heart disease. Students will also learn basic cardiac pharmacology including indications and contraindications of common cardiac drugs, pharmacologic stress agents, and their uses and adverse effects. Includes a lab component of practical application of didactic content and development of technical assessment skills of cardiac pathophysiology. Special consideration will be given to echocardiographic presentation and parameters of various cardiac pathologies and disease states. Students will learn to identify pathologies and adjust protocols to adequately identify and assess disease states that are encountered to further the differential diagnosis.
