DMS 340 - Echocardiography Fundamentals and Techniques Introduction to the fundamentals of echocardiography including cardiac anatomy, terminology and basic instrumentation, 2-D, M-mode, and Doppler scanning of a normal heart, as well as an introduction to the standard TTE (transthoracic echo) views. Students will begin to explore normal basic systolic and diastolic functions. Includes, a lab component as an introduction to the practical application of echocardiography and basic instrumentation and measurement conventions. Students will learn in a controlled, simulated environment a foundation of sonographic techniques and ergonomics as well as basic echo knobology, image acquisition, and image optimization. Students will be introduced to the American Society of Echo (ASE) guidelines on the comprehensive TTE examination.
