MATH 174 - Foundations of Math for Educators I


This course provides a focused exploration of foundational mathematical concepts essential for elementary education teachers. The curriculum is structured around 25 hours of number sense/operations and 20 hours of algebraic thinking. Number sense topics include whole numbers, fractions, decimals, place value, and numerical reasoning. Algebraic thinking topics cover patterns, relationships, expressions, and early equation-solving strategies. Through interactive problem-solving, hands-on activities, and pedagogical discussions, students will develop the necessary mathematical reasoning and instructional techniques to foster numeracy in young learners.
