PHLB 100 - Phlebotomy Course


This is a 16 week course (44 hours of didactic and 120 hours of clinical) designed to prepare students to perform Phlebotomy in the clinical setting. The course content includes medical terminology and anatomy applicable to the practice of phlebotomy. Other content areas include specimen collection and storage, patient identification, safety, infection control, and blood collection procedutres. Venipuncture will be highly emphasized with student laboratory components. Communication and professionalism will be reviewed. After sucessful completion of the didactic component, the student will complete clinical hours at our affiliate sites. Successful completion of the course will allow students to be eligible for the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification (BOC) Phlebotomy Exam.
