PTA 283 - Patient Care Skills IV & Patient Care Skills IV Lab


Treatment techniques taught in this course will be integrated with previous coursework to achieve more advanced comprehensive management of the patient with an orthopedic or neurologic diagnosis. Students will be challenged to provide the rationale for patient care plans and for identifying organized and efficient sequencing of components of treatment sessions.  Specialty units of instruction include wound care techniques, mobilization of a patient in the ICU, introduction to joint mobilization, topics in women’s health, and lymphedema treatment.  Guest patients and field experiences will be utilized, if available.  In the pediatric unit, students will review and build on knowledge of common developmental progressions, delays, and diagnoses. Students will be instructed in integration of special tests and measures as well as providing physical therapy services in school and outpatient settings for the pediatric population.  This course will be offered during the first eight weeks of Semester IV of the PTA curriculum. (13-15 hours of Theory/Discussion and Lab for eight weeks)
