PHES 215 - Nutrition This course is designed to advance students’ understanding of the principles of nutrition in relationship to human physiology, biochemistry, life cycle, health and disease prevention and treatment. Dietary choices will be explored in relationship to human behavior, culture, health beliefs, media influence and social attitudes. The course will promote application of learning to personal, professional, familial and community needs. Students will learn ways to advocate for healthy attitudes toward food for fitness at all ages and sizes considering a variety of eating patterns and special diets. Social responsibility and leadership, both professionally and as a citizen, in preventing malnutrition and other diseases related to food, prejudice, and discrimination related to body size or dietary choices will be a prevailing theme throughout the course.
