Program Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging at the University of Saint Francis engages diverse, lifelong learners in an atmosphere of academic and clinical excellence permeated by Franciscan values. It will prepare students to serve in the medical imaging field in a variety of career opportunities that have a predicted faster than average job growth in the region. The Medical Imaging degree sequence is 4 years, including summer courses. Graduates will be able to work in various healthcare settings with options for variety and advancement.

Students will build upon their current experience in healthcare to develop skills in new modalities and gain a broader understanding of the multifaceted healthcare environment. Credits from the associate degree are applied to the 120-credit hour requirement for a bachelor’s degree with the option to also earn 2 associates degrees.

Program Goals 

  • To prepare individuals for entry level work as radiographers and diagnostic medical sonographers.  
  • To deliver high quality didactic, lab, and clinical instruction for optimal student outcomes.  
  • For students to develop skills of compassionate yet critical thinking.  
  • For students to focus on the complexities of healthcare, not limited to, but including areas of equality, service, integrity, professionalism, and ethical behaviors and perform in adherence to the Franciscan Values. 

Student Learning Outcomes 

Graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging program are prepared to serve in professional roles within a complex healthcare environment. Graduates will:

  • Possess behaviors that contribute to ethical and professional excellence.  
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills with patients and colleagues.  
  • Encompass the Franciscan Values as diverse healthcare workers. 
  • Demonstrate competency of entry-level medical imaging skills.
  • Effectively communicate in a way that provides compassionate, culturally competent, and age-appropriate patient care in advanced medical imaging modalities.
  • Exercise critical thinking skills that provide ethical and safe patient care in advanced medical imaging modalities.
  • Value professional development for patient care and advanced medical imaging through life-long learning that meets the needs of the medical imaging community.

Degree Requirements 

The Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging degree requires a minimum of 120 credit hours. All requirements of chosen associates degree(s) are also applicable.

Admission Requirements 

For acceptance into the Medical Imaging program, the applicant must:

Meet one of the following requirements:

Candidates will be considered for admission to the program who meet one of the following: 

  1. Have completed an Associate of Science in Radiologic Technology, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Cardiovascular Technology, or Magnetic Resonance Imaging Program with at a minimum of a 2.7 GPA. 
  2. Are currently enrolled in the University of Saint Francis Associate of Science in Radiologic Technology, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Cardiovascular Technology, or Magnetic Resonance Imaging Program and are in good academic standing*.  
  3. Have been accepted into the Associates of Science in Radiologic Technology, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Cardiovascular Technology, or Magnetic Resonance Imaging Program at the University of Saint Francis and are in good academic standing*.  

The determination of acceptance to the Medical Imaging Program will be made after the individual review of each applicant’s file.  Additional information of the individual applicant may be requested at the committee’s discretion prior to a decision being made.   

*Good academic standing is defined as meeting all Radiologic Technology, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Cardiovascular Technology, or Magnetic Resonance Imaging Program academic standards and their progression criteria.  

Admission Requirements to the Radiologic Technology, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Cardiovascular Technology, or Magnetic Resonance Imaging Program programs are applicable. 

Progression Requirements 

To be in good academic standing by maintaining 2.7+ GPA, ‘C’ or greater in general education courses, and associate program specific requirements.

Graduation Requirements 

All students will complete the required credits indicated in the program’s curriculum plan with a cumulative GPA of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale for eligibility to graduate.

General Education


Medical Imaging Core, 40-90


Student may recieve 40 to 90 credit hours from previous program work in Radiologic Technology, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, and / or Cardiovascular Technology.  

These credit hours may be applied to the B.S. degree after the successful completion of the appropriate Associate of Applied Science degree.  Credit hours may appear on the program by use of one of the following codes:

Free Electives


Student may take 12 or more credit hours of elective credits.  Dependent on program needs to complete 120 credit hours, as advised.
