Program Overview

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art program is a professional degree that prepares students for positions in studio arts-related job markets and the necessary skills to succeed in graduate study. The programs feature a traditional art score curriculum with concentrations in Two-Dimensional Studio Art, Three-Dimensional Studio Art, and Photography. Each concentration is supported by fully equipped studios designed to facilitate learning and creativity and accommodate health and safety standards. 

Student Learning Outcomes

  • Demonstrate technical skills in major area of concentration and achieve basic visual communication and expression in one or more media
  • Develop an artistic maturity and sensitivity to visual aesthetics, making workable connections between concept and media
  • Utilize the principles of visual art and design
  • Analyze the intentions of major artists/designers and movements of the past and the present, both in the Western and non-Western worlds
  • Evaluate the nature of contemporary thinking on art and design
  • Discern quality in design projects and works of art

Degree Requirements

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art requires 120 credit hours:

  • 21 credit hours in required core courses
  • 12 credit hours in art history
  • 18 credit hours in primary concentration courses
  • 12 credit hours in secondary concentrations courses
  • 36-37 credit hours of Franciscan Core Curriculum (FCC) courses
  • 21 credit hours in elective courses as needed

Concentrations

Students in the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art I program select between the following concentration options:

2D Studio Concentration

  • 18 hours from the 2D Studio Art Concentration
  • 6 Hours from Photography Focus Area
  • 6 hours from 3D Studio Art Focus Area

3D Studio Concentration

  • 18 hours from the 3D Studio Art Concentration
  • 6 Hours from Photography Focus Area
  • 6 Hours from 2D Studio Art Focus Area

Photography Concentration

  • 18 hours from the Photography Concentration
  • 6 Hours from 2D Studio Art Focus Area
  • 6 Hours from 3D Studio Art Focus Area

 

2D Studio Art Secondary Focus Areas


Students in the 2D studio art primary concentration will also take the following.
