The Advanced EMT (AEMT) Program is designed to provide students with advanced skills and knowledge to deliver pre-hospital emergency care. The program builds upon Basic EMT training and introduces more complex procedures, including advanced airway management, medication administration, and patient assessment techniques, preparing students for roles in emergency medical services (EMS). As the demand for highly skilled EMS providers continues to grow, the AEMT program offers an essential next step for individuals seeking to advance their careers in emergency medical services. The program addresses the need for trained professionals who can provide more comprehensive care in critical situations, ensuring better patient outcomes. Graduates of this program will be equipped to take on greater responsibilities in the EMS field and will be prepared for national certification exams and career advancement opportunities.
Learning Objectives
1. Integrate principles of anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology into patient assessment and management.
2. Perform advanced airway management techniques, including the use of supraglottic airways.
3. Initiate and manage intravenous (IV) and intraosseous (10) access for fluid and medication administration.
4. Administer approved medications safely and appropriately according to AEMT protocols.
5. Differentiate between medical and traumatic emergencies requiring advanced life support interventions.
6. Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams while demonstrating professional conduct.
7. Apply medical and trauma assessment skills to develop and implement advanced care plans.
8. Prepare for and meet the cognitive objectives required for successful NREMT Advanced EMT certification.
