Program Overview

USF’s Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Technology program is an extremely rigorous healthcare curriculum focused on performing laboratory tests. Students take general education and core biology curriculum at USF for three years. The fourth year is an intensive clinical rotation at a regional healthcare facility receiving direct, on-site, hands-on experience in a medical laboratory. The clinical training portion earns 32 credit hours from various areas: Clinical Microbiology, Clinical Hematology, Blood Bank, Serology, Urinalysis, Parasitology, Coagulation, Immunology, Histology, Education and Management, Orientation and Lab Practice, Topics in Medical Technology, Clinical Chemistry, and Special Chemistry.

Professionals use technical instrumentation in hospitals, clinics, research laboratories and private industry. Graduates often find employment within the healthcare facility where they conduct their clinical rotation.
