Program Overview

The Bachelor of Arts in Communication Program: Public Relations graduates creative storytellers who engage audiences in professional, educational, and entertaining messages. In the public relations program, we promote professionalism, credibility, and expertise. We create learning experiences that emphasize practical, hands-on projects that develop collaboration, problem solving, and storytelling skills.

Public Relations professionals engage in promoting and creating an intended public image for individuals, groups, or organizations. Graduates apply what they have learned to any field in which they have an interest, ranging from technology to government, from charitable work to entertainment.

Student Learning Outcomes

Program Outcomes Communication: Public Relations

  • Demonstrate knowledge and application of Public Relations and Communication terminology and theories.
  • Demonstrate expertise in using the techniques and strategies of public relations.
  • Demonstrate and evaluate effective oral communication.
  • Demonstrate accuracy and professionalism in all styles of media writing
  • Critically analyze the social and cultural perspectives associated with the study of Public Relations and Communication.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently and in team and group settings.

Degree Requirements

The Bachelor of Arts in Communication: Public Relations requires 120 credit hours:

  • 54 credit hours in Major required courses
  • 36- 37 credit hours of Franciscan Core Curriculum courses
  • 29-30 credit hours in elective courses as needed
