The Theology and Ministry programs engage and embody the mission and values of USF by forming catechetically-trained and Gospel-minded Christian disciples, rooted in the Catholic and Franciscan Intellectual Tradition, for leadership in and service to the Church.

  • Customize your education and formation for the background best suited for you by choosing one of three concentrations: Interdisciplinary Theology, Pastoral Theology, or Teaching Theology-Education. Each concentration provides for integration of practical, experiential learning through internships, practicums, and field experience.
  • Receive formation and mentoring in discerning your God-given call and fostering professional/vocational skills, in association with Campus Ministry through our co-curricular formation program.

A USF BA in Theology prepares you to:

  • Teach at a religious school + Work in high school or college Campus Ministry + Minister in the Church as a Pastoral Associate, Director of Religious Education, or Youth Director + Work in various diocesan ministries + Serve others as a Hospital or Hospice Chaplain + Work at or direct a charity or not-for-profit organization + Be a Missionary + Write for religious news and apologetics sources + Continue studies to become a canon lawyer + Continue studies to become a pastor, priest, deacon + Continue studies to become a university theology professor.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon graduation with a B.A. degree in Theology, USF students will:

Human

  • With Christ as the model human, identify and exemplify what it means to be human and to act rightly in the world.

Spiritual

  • Internalize spirituality and discipleship as foundational to all theological inquiry and practice.

Intellectual

  • Demonstrate knowledge of theological resources and principles, competence in theological analysis, and the ability to communicate theological topics and arguments in a clear, thoughtful, and precise manner.

Pastoral

  • Exhibit a range of and commitment to leadership and pastoral skills in service of God, neighbor, Church, and world.

Degree Requirements

The B.A. in Theology degree requires 120 credit hours:

  • 47-50 credit hours of General Education courses
  • 36 credit hours of major core courses in theology, philosophy, languages, and humanities courses
  • 9-18 credit hours of concentration courses
  • 16-28 credit hours of electives
  • Participation in co-curricular formation program

Admission Requirements


Applicants must meet University of Saint Francis admission requirements.

Progression Requirements


Theology majors must maintain a GPA of at least 2.0.

Graduation Requirements


Theology majors must meet USF graduation requirements.
