Program Overview

USF’s Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Technology program is an extremely rigorous healthcare curriculum focused on performing laboratory tests. Students take general education and core biology curriculum at USF for three years. The fourth year is an intensive clinical rotation at a regional healthcare facility receiving direct, on-site, hands-on experience in a medical laboratory. The clinical training portion earns 34 credit hours from various areas: Introduction to Medical Laboratory, Phlebotomy and Specimen Processing, Research, Education and Management, Urinalysis and Body Fluids, Chemistry, Immunology, Hematology, Coagulation and Homeostasis, Immunohematology and Transfusion Medicine (Blood Bank), Microbiology and Parasitology, and Clinical Laboratory Practicum.

Professionals use technical instrumentation in hospitals, clinics, research laboratories and private industry. Graduates often find employment within the healthcare facility where they conduct their clinical rotation.
