Pre-Art Therapy, B.A.

The Bachelor of Arts in Pre-Art Therapy program is an exciting choice for students seeking a career in Art Therapy or related fields. This program blends a solid curriculum in the Studio Arts with Psychology, as well as course options in Criminal Justice, and Social Work. Together these prepare students for graduate study in Art Therapy to become licensed Art Therapists as well as other related post-graduate fields and careers that blend the arts and helping people.

Concentrations

The Bachelor of Arts in Pre-Art Therapy program offers three concentrations:

  • Concentration in 2/D
  • Concentration in 3/D
  • Concentration in Photography

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon graduation, students in the Bachelor of Art in Pre-Art Therapy must:

  • Demonstrate technical skills in a major area of concentration.
  • Achieve basic visual communication and expression in one or more media.
  • Utilize the elements and principles of visual art and design.
  • Make workable connections between concept and media.
  • Recognize and respect individual differences and differences in culture, race/ ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, and sexual orientation and work effectively in multicultural and pluralistic social contexts.
  • Develop a theoretical foundation in cognitive and developmental psychology; and learning, behavior, and social-emotional problems and strengths.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of psychological and educational prevention and intervention programs that promote cognitive, behavioral, and social-emotional growth of children and families.
  • Explore psychological and educational research and evaluation programs.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently and develop expertise in their chosen concentration.

Degree Requirements

The Bachelor of Arts in Pre-Art Therapy requires 120 credit hours:

  • 75 credit hours in Major Required Courses
  • 36-37 credit hours of Franciscan Core Courses
  • 9 hours in Concentration Courses
  • 12 -13 credit hours in elective courses as needed

Major Art Required Core Courses, 75 Credit Hours:


Major ARt Core: 45 crdit hours minus 6 credit hours directed in the FCC - total of 39 credit hours

Concentrations, 9 Credit Hours:


General Education, 36-37 Credit Hours With Directed Courses Including:


Electives, 12-13 Credit Hours as Needed


Admission Requirements


Applicants to the Bachelor of Arts in Pre-Art Therapy Program must meet University of Saint Francis admission requirements.

Progression Requirements


Students in the Bachelor of Arts in Pre-Art Therapy Program complete a sophomore portfolio review.

Graduation Requirements


Students in the Bachelor of Arts in Pre-Art Therapy Program complete a senior portfolio review.
