Medical Imaging, B.S.

The Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging at the University of Saint Francis engages diverse, lifelong learners in an atmosphere of academic and clinical excellence permeated by Franciscan values. This program combines two areas of Medical Imaging that are established important fields in healthcare. In beginning this degree, the first two years the student will apply, progress, and complete the Associate of Applied Science degree in Radiologic Technology. The second two years, the student will apply, progress, and complete the Associate of Applied Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. In conjunction with these two curriculums, students will simultaneously be completing general education courses that are steeped in the Franciscan values. The Medical Imaging degree sequence is 4 years, including summer courses. This is a rigorous sequence of courses that results in a highly desirable outcome of two Associate of Applied Sciences degrees and a Bachelor of Science degree. Graduates will be able to work in various healthcare settings with options for variety and advancement. 

Program Goals 

• To prepare individuals for entry level work as radiographers and diagnostic medical sonographers.  
• To deliver high quality didactic, lab, and clinical instruction for optimal student outcomes.  
• For students to develop skills of compassionate yet critical thinking.  
• For students to focus on the complexities of healthcare, not limited to, but including areas of equality, service, integrity, professionalism, and ethical behaviors and perform in adherence to the Franciscan Values. 

Student Learning Outcomes 

• Graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging will have outcomes evaluated by means of the Associate of Applied Science degrees in Radiologic Technology and Diagnostic Medical Sonography. These outcomes encompass: 
• Perform as entry level practitioners of radiologic technology and diagnostic medical sonography diagnostic services.  
• Possess behaviors that contribute to ethical and professional excellence.  
• Demonstrate effective communication skills with patients and colleagues.  
• Encompass the Franciscan Values as diverse healthcare workers. 

Degree Requirements 

140 credit hours are required for degree completion. All requirements of the Radiologic Technology AAS and the Diagnostic Medical Sonography AAS are also applicable. 

Admission Requirements 

Candidates will be considered for admission to the program who meet one of the following: 

1. Have completed an Associate of Science in Radiologic Technology Program with at a minimum of a 2.7 GPA. 
2. Are currently enrolled in the University of Saint Francis Associate of Science in Radiologic Technology Program and are in good academic standing*.  
3. Have been accepted into the Associates of Science in Radiologic Technology Program at the University of Saint Francis and are in good academic standing*.  

The determination of acceptance to the Medical Imaging Program will be made after the individual review of each applicant’s file.  Additional information of the individual applicant may be requested at the committee’s discretion prior to a decision being made.   

*Good academic standing is defined as meeting all Radiologic Technology academic standards and progression criteria.  

Admission Requirements to the Radiologic Technology and Diagnostic Medical Sonography programs are applicable. 

Progression Requirements 

To be in good academic standing, students must maintain a GPA of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale, a grade of 82 percent (C+) or higher in all professional courses, a “C” or higher in general education courses and achieve all clinical competencies required in each semester or summer session to advance in the program. 

Graduation Requirements 

All students will complete required credits indicated in the program’s curriculum plan with a cumulative GPA of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale for eligibility to graduate.
