Program Overview

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art program is a professional degree that prepares students for positions in studio arts-related job markets and the necessary skills to succeed in graduate study. The programs feature a traditional art score curriculum with concentrations in Two-Dimensional Studio Art, Three-Dimensional Studio Art, and Photography. Each concentration is supported by fully equipped studios designed to facilitate learning and creativity and accommodate health and safety standards. 

Student Learning Outcomes

  • Demonstrate technical skills in major area of concentration and achieve basic visual communication and expression in one or more media
  • Develop an artistic maturity and sensitivity to visual aesthetics, making workable connections between concept and media
  • Utilize the principles of visual art and design
  • Analyze the intentions of major artists/designers and movements of the past and the present, both in the Western and non-Western worlds
  • Evaluate the nature of contemporary thinking on art and design
  • Discern quality in design projects and works of art

Degree Requirements

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art requires 120 credit hours:

  • 21 credit hours in required core courses
  • 12 credit hours in art history
  • 18 credit hours in primary concentration courses
  • 12 credit hours in secondary concentrations courses
  • 36-37 credit hours of Franciscan Core Curriculum (FCC) courses
  • 3 credit hours in FCC literature requirement
  • 18 credit hours in elective courses as needed

Primary and Secondary Concentrations

Students in the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art program select between the following primary concentration options for 18 credit hours:

  • 2D Studio Art Primary Concentration
  • 3D Studio Art Primary Concentration
  • Photography Primary Concentration 

 

Students will be placed into secondary concentrations based on their primary choice. 

Secondary Concentrations: 6 credit hours


Students who select a 2D Primary Primary Concentration will automatically have 3D and Photography Secondary Concentrations.

Students who select 3D Primary Primary Concentrations will automatically have 2D and Photgraphy Secondary Concentrations.

Students who select Photography Primary Concentration will automatically have 2D and 3D Secondary Concentrations. 

Course list is the same as Primary Concentrations Lists above. Six credit hours of art classes not in the Primary Concentration. 

Electives: 18 credit hours


Students will take 18 credit hours of electives.
